Dinner conversation the other night somehow got on the topic of my 78 Trans Am i had in high school. I told my wife i wished i still had it, to which she said “so buy another one.” Um, OK, twist my arm. So commence the hunt! Criteria are: must be V8/ 4 spd. Don’t care what V8 as it will probably get an LS swap. But must run/drive as is. Body must be solid. No rust, paint in reasonable condition. Interior not important so long as got a dash and at least the front seats. Solid roof, no t tops or sunroof. prefer years 70-78. located in the northeast/mid atlantic.

LS swap a Pontiac? WTF is wrong with you? Here is the big boy engine you want to put in it.

Most important question right here.
If you want a real T/A, cool, but if you are going to LS swap it you should go T56.
If you don’t care if it’s real and will do a T/A clone, buy a V6/TH350 car since it’s going in the dumpster anyway.

Either she's amazing or she's testing you and you're about to fail said test.

Why not 79/81 and nose swap? And maybe think about getting an automatic car and doing an LS/T-56 swap? Most of those swaps use the automatic console and stuff. Also, don’t ruin a perfectly good 400/4-speed car just to do a swap... but if you do, I’ll take the 4 speed parts off of you.

I just love the way an old 4 speed feels. t56 just isn’t the same.

too much bling on that. if it doesn’t make it go faster, turn quicker or stop shorter, it has no business being on the car. I will set the car up for road course, so i will likely end up with an aluminum 5.3 from a trailblazer under the hood. The one i had in high school had the 403 in it, which lasted about a week before i yanked it out and swapped in a 455.

if it’s cost effective, i’d do a nose swap.

not a test. she really is amazing. and she’s a car nut too. we have 7 cars between the two of us.

Might make sense to look for an auto. The car will be cheaper, probably, and if you’re doing an engine swap you’ll want a trans swap anyway.
